The Sea Lapland String Quartet was founded in 1983 to intensify string instruments education and increase concert events in the region. Today, the Quartet is a major national and international player which has a strong position in the cultural field in Seal Lapland. The Quartet has its own classical music concert series. In addition, it performs in schools, retirement homes and cafés in its home region Kemi, Tornio, Tervola and Simo. The Quartet has given concerts, for example, in Sweden and Hungary and will tour Japan in December 2019.

The employment contract is subject to the municipal collective agreement for musicians. We appreciate experience in similar duties plus excellent team working communication skills. The concertmaster will participate in planning the season programme and schedules. The principal second violin/teacher will participate in the season’s artistic planning for the Quartet. The current job includes teaching duties at the Sea Lapland Music Institute. The audition may include an interview. The audition will be held in the Sointu hall in the Kemi Cultural Centre on Friday 26 April 2019 starting from 1.00 pm, Marina Takalon katu 3, 94100 KEMI.

Audition repertoire:
– Mozart: Violin Concerto No. 3 G in major, No. 4 D in major or No. 5 A in major, 1st and 2nd part with cadenzas
– Optional romantic concerto, 1st part with cadenzas
– Repertoire for chamber music and orchestral excerpts which will be sent to the applicants by email after the application period has expired

The application must include the applicant’s personal data and contact information, evidence of the applicant’s education and previous experience as well as a mention of the programme performed in the audition. We kindly request that the applicants bring their original certificates to the audition session. If the applicant wishes to use the orchestra’s accompanist, he should send the accompaniment music either in PDF format attached to the application, by post to the address of the orchestra or the applicant should provide a link to the network location where the music can be downloaded. If the applicant posts the music, he must check with the orchestra about whether the music has been delivered.  

Before a decision has been confirmed to select a person to the position, he must submit an extract from the criminal record based on the Laki lasten kanssa työskentelevien rikostaustan selvittämisestä Act (Act on Investigation into the Criminal History of Those Working with Children). The applicant must personally obtain the extract which will not be appended to the application documents. The selected person must present a medical certificate of his health before taking up his duties. The selected person is subject to a four-month probation.
