The 36th Nordic Orchestra Conference in Helsinki, Finland

The 36th Nordic Orchestra Conference will be held in Helsinki on September 19-21, 2012. All orchestra managers and other representatives of Nordic orchestras are warmly welcome to take part. We will be discussing globalization and what it will mean for classical music, orchestras, music education etc. We will also be debating the future of music journalism with, as our keynote speaker, Mr. Alex Ross, former music critic on the New York Times and nowadays The New Yorker. Mr. Ross ia also the author of the books The Rest is Noise, Listening to Twentieth Century (2007) and Listen to This (2010). All our speakers are distinguished specialists. Conference participants will also have a chance to make a tour of our brand new Helsinki Music Centre and its concert halls.

For those who can spare only one day, we are offering a one-day package for Thursday 20th and a participation fee of 300 €. We also recommend this for your orchestras' press managers and marketing people!

To be sure of getting a room at our conference hotel, the Scandic Marski, please send your registration before August 18th. The fee for the full conference is 490 €.

The conference sessions will be held from Wednesday Sept. 19th to Friday Sept. 21st at Hotel Scandic Marski (which is also our official conference hotel with negotiated room prices).

In addition to the in-depth talks, we can hear some wonderful concerts by the Helsinki Philharmonic Orchestra conducted by John Storgårds and the Finnish Radio Symphony Orchestra conducted by Jukka-Pekka Saraste. We can visit some exciting places and enjoy a delightful "social life" with our wonderful orchestral "family". Welcome to the conference!
